Back In The Days, I'm Not A Kid Anymore, But Sometimes..

Ya boy Sean in the building. For those of you that don't know, I have and always will be a Honda fanatic. There are alot of ways to go when building one of these things, but I prefer the clean and simple route..

I just wanted to refresh some of y'all to the things that inspired me, (and still do!) in the Honda scene back in the day. I see the trends in 2009 nowadays which remind me alot of our scene in the year 2000, when rice was on it's way out, but Jdm was not quite here yet. Yes, like the brown still on your toilet paper no matter how many times you wipe, rice in this scene is here to stay. For example, back in 2000, it was all about the new, "clean" body kit, like Wings West and C-Westin, these were a refreshing change from the radical Black Widow and Street Fyghter kits that plagued our scene throughout the 90's, yet it was not until the new era in Honda building that we would finally know what "clean" really meant.

And then came that clean era, in 2001 thanks in part to mags like Super Street and T'MR. More and more builds set the bar for simplicity, naturally aspirated performance, and these small 15" rare Jdm wheels which would have gotten you clowned on a few years earlier.

Below: No, they aren't the Backstreet Boys.. But as trendy as a boy band in 1999, can you spot these cookie cutter trends?? Slanted stickers on windshield, mad-tyte jdm relocated plates, red Rota wheels, a Wakaba sticker, fake plastic lips- (certainly not the good kind you eat on Halloween) and the dreaded "Jdm pose".. Hey I thought Eddie Hahm killed that in '02?

And now... Check your toilet paper kiddo's, it's baaaaack! Yes, much like the year 2000, trends and cookie-cutter builds are everywhere. Those Wings West and C-Westin kits have been replaced with Airwalker, BYS and White Crow. Those little 15" wheels are gettin you clowned on once again, as more and more people are making the jump to 17" wheels. Stickers all over your rides are back, and that horrid blueish glow illuminating from your headlights have been replaced by an even more hideous yellow glow. I shudder to think what the next next trends in this scene will be.

But, maybe, just maybe, perhaps a new dawn will emerge for 2010, as we approach the next decade, much like the awakening occured in 1999 as we headed into the year 2000.. Could it be the next frontier? We can only hope. -SK
